As you move away from a troubled life and towards a promising future, the following are drug and alcohol addiction recovery principles to help you overcome addiction to stay clean and sober. One thing that I can tell is that from my experience in recovery I think you will find that it will be a journey of recovery one in which you will have to stay focused on and do some things you may not really want to.
* 1. Admitting that you have an addiction to drugs or alcohol is frightening, because it is acknowledging that there is an area of your life over which you have lost control. But it is also a critical part of your recovery. Accepting and understanding a problem allows you to move past it.
* 2. Drug and alcohol addiction are not something you should struggle with alone. Enlist the support of your loved ones. Explore support options such as Alcoholics Anonymous or another community group. Work with a therapist or counselor.
If you choose to use AA as a recovery tool I would suggest that you attend a meeting everyday for no less than 90 days and while attending these meeting find a sponsor. If you do this it is a good step in the right direction meaning recovery.
How to quit drinking and stay clean and sober
* 3. Avoid social activities where others will be drinking or using drugs. Keeping away from temptation is a critical part of overcoming alcohol and drug addiction recovery. At least initially, this may also mean avoiding contact with those you normally drank or used drugs with unless they are also in recovery.
*4. Fill the time in your days that were previously taken up by drinking or drug use with other social activities. Let your family and friends know that you need their support. Engage in fun, sober activities with those who support you. Replace “partying” with movie and board game nights or outdoor family gatherings.
*5. Also use your free time to pursue hobbies that interest you and build your self-esteem. Sobriety can give you the clearer head and healthier body you need to join that community sports team or pursue your interest in photography or writing, for example.
*6. Remember that your addiction is only one part of you. Instead of berating yourself for your drug or alcohol addiction, praise yourself for each sober day you spend on the road to recovery.

I know I had to do this and I made some commitments to my recovery using the spiritual principles of honesty, open-mindedness and willingness which helped me to overcome addiction.
