Percocet Addiction can happen to anyone
Addiction usually begins when it is prescribed by a doctor for pain. Percocet is a highly addictive narcotic made from acetaminophen and oxycodone. Studies have shown that women are two times more likely to form an addiction than men, and those who suffer with chronic pain are at the highest risk for developing an addiction of this nature.
Abuse of percocet happens when the user has taken the pills over a time period of two to three weeks. Most people will develop immunity to the drug naturally and will begin increasing the dosage thus resulting in a tollerance which will cause them to take more and more to get the effect they used to get which will lead to a mental and physical oxycodone addiction.
Physical symptoms of an addiction to Percocet can include:
• Shaking when the drug wears off
• Flu Like Symptoms
• Increased pain in the area the medication was prescribed for
• Restlessness
• Irritability
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• A feeling of euphoria when the drug enters the system coupled with a feeling of depression as the drug wears off
• Nausea
• Stomach Pains
• Itchy skin
• constipation
While some may argue that once the physical percocet addiction from narcotics is treated the worry is over. Sadly, many who suffer from chronic pain are likely to return to substance abuse to control the pain and just feel better in general. The user may believe that his or her body is now free of the physical addiction and therefore one pill, this just this one time, will cause no harm and thus the drug takes control once again. It has been my experience that if your and addict “one is too many and a thousand is never every enough”!
How to overcome an addiction to percocet and get through percocet withdrawal
Drug addiction is both a physical and mental health problem and needs to be treated as such and getting through a percocet withdrawal is no exception. By treating the psychological addiction while treating the physical addiction it is much more likely that the user will find other means to control the pain they suffer with.
With the major increase in prescription painkiller addiction these days it has brought on the need for more opiate addiction rehabs. Now days there is an opiate addiction treatment center for practially every type of opiate drug there is for example, vicodin addiction, and oxy addiction are all very popular types of rehabs or treatment centers one can go to overcome opiate addiction.
If you go you will be medically detoxed from percocet. What this basically means is the will use medications so you will not suffer from percocet withdrawal. You can be in and out of detox in less than one week however if you really wish to stop using percocet and overcome addiction you will continue on in residential treatment.
The reason why residential treatment is so important that this is where you will learn about how to use addiction recovery tools. First of all you will be required to attend 12 step meetings, substance abuse counseling, group therapy, and lectures. During this process you will be sharing about your addiction and learning how to avoid a relapse when you leave drug rehab.
Good luck to all
