I am a recovering addict and I have wondered at times how many people are actually addicted to hydrocodone and need hydrocodone treatment. There are many folk addicted to this medication and don’t even know it. However it is possible that they also could very well be in denial about it. I know I before I was able to get clean and sober I always said I did not have a problem if you would just leave me alone or act the way I wanted you to act I would not have to use.
I actually believe that I could come up with a very good hypothesis which is that doctors are somewhat to blame for a lot of the drug addiction that is happening around the world. I mean you can go to the Dr. with a sprained ankle and get a prescription for vicodin. Something is defiantly wrong with that picture because they could have just as easily prescribed Motrin and it could have prevented a possible future vicodin addiction.
The patient could have more than likely managed their pain just fine alternating with Motrin and Tylenol. If you think you have a problem with this medication and want help then why not consider going to hydrocodone rehab?
I would say that your odds of stopping on your own are slim but with proper treatment for hydrocodone addiction your odds will improve dramatically because in rehab they use medications to help you to cope with the symptoms of hydrocodone withdrawal.
Beating drug addiction
* How to take control back in your life
* Overcoming addiction may be one of the hardest things you will ever do
* Take action and make the changes you need to and start enjoying life without the use of drugs
This type of treatment is actually a two fold operation first thing is detoxing you. Step two is residential treatment. In residental treatment you will attend groups, lectures, watch recovery orientated videos, and attend NA meetings. This will give you the tools you will need so will not have to go through this again.
How to stop using hydrocodone and overcome drug addiction with opiate treatment
If you want to increase or further your odds of remaining clean and sober by overcoming addiction then I would suggest long term treatment or rehab. Long term drug treatment can last up to 2 years. I went for the full 2 years and there is no substitute for it. It changed my entire outlook on life. I learned the good as well as the bad about myself. I made a lot of changes one of which was going back to school.
Long term drug treatment centers are meant to help you to learn to rebuild your life from the ground up. The place I went to you had to follow a set rules. One rule was that if you used drugs or alcohol you were kicked out without a second chance however you could reapply after 30 days. This rule was in place for the benefit of the other residents trying to stop using because we would not want anyone using in our presence now would we.
Another rule was to attend 90 meetings in 90 days. This sounds like a lot but it really? I mean what is getting your life back worth too you? As a matter of fact I complected my first ninety and then did another 90 in 90. This is about the time I started to notice a change in my life my fears were being removed one by one. I was starting to feel pretty good. We also had to attend group twice a week and have individual therapy once per week. After around 60 days I started going to school. I was scared to death.
When fall came and school started I was afraid to go to class the first day. I thought that I was to old being that I was like in my 40’s. I did go and I was uncomfortable but I got through it. There were many more uncomfortable situations since I started school but they all passed and I did not have to use because of them.
When I received my grades for the first semester I found out that I was going to be on the dean’s list it was at this point that I knew I could do it. I am currently going to school now. I am close to getting my bachelors degree in Social Work. This is a huge leap for an ex dope fiend like me. I have found out that when we get clean and sober we can become the person we always desired to be. You can do it too give yourself a break and stop using drugs today and try long term treatment.
Good luck

How did you detox from the opiates, did you use suboxone or subutex or did you just kick cold turkey?
I work in treatment and it seems like we are getting calls almost as much from people wanting to kick long term detox med use as we are people actually caught up in the addiction of the opiates themselves.
Where you in inpatient treatment for the whole of 2 years or did you transition to lower levels of care after a certain amount of time?
Hi thanks for your comment. I have detoxed from opiates with suboxone and subutex I have also kicked cold turkey. Well as far as the long term treatment I actually went to inpatient treatment for about two weeks and detoxed while there and the long term treatment was right next door and I believe God made the way for me to get in because there was a waiting list and I got right in after I finished residential treatment. As far as the level of care we were allowed to work or go to school while in long term treatment.
