How to Stop Drug Abuse

For a lot of people trying to stop using drugs be a nightmare but with help and guidance, it can be done. Stopping drug abuse takes time, commitment, patience and help from a person or health agency. To begin the recovery process of ending the drug abuse several things must happen:

How to stop drug abuse and overcome addiction

drug-rehabilitation

First, the person who is abusing drugs must admit that he or she is addicted to drugs and needs help.

Second, the person addicted to drugs or alcohol needs to join a 12 step program like Narcotics anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous.

Third, look for a therapist. There are therapists that give counseling for free or for a minimal charge. He or she can help you find out the underlying problems of why you are abusing drugs and help you to stop drug abuse. Often a person is trying to escape a past or present reality that is hurting their soul.

Four, the addicted person needs to find some kind of physical activity such as walking, bicycling or other activity. When you are trying to get rid of a bad habit like drugs, it is best to put an activity in place of it. In addition, do what you can to improve your diet.

Eat more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Good nutrition will help you feel and look better and help get your body back in shape. In addition, stay away from those who are still using drugs and avoid places where you once used drugs.

Also, it will help you to do some reading about ways to quit drug abuse, for it will help you to understand why you became addicted. And if possible, help others who are addicted, if they show a desire to quit.

Do not get freaked out if you do not stay clean and sober the first time you try. I know a lot of addicts who go to rehab get out and use again and they feel like they failed this could be true but this does not mean that they are a failure.

Sometimes I think that they need to hear that from someone who has been in there shoes and relapsed every time they got out of rehab and sometimes the very same day. I am not trying to say here that its alright to relapse what I am saying is that relapse can and does happen so get over it pick yourself up and start again.

If you are attending a 12 step program it is important that the next meeting you go to let everyone know you relapsed they will understand and not condem you they are there to build you up not tear you down we have done enough of this ourselves.

Keep in mind, too, that support groups can be quite helpful because they have members who have been in recovery for several years. It is always a good idea getting first hand experience and this can be done by talking with someone who has gone through the experience and has been successful in overcoming the use of drugs, can be invaluable in helping you.

Hi there, I have a problem with drugs and so does my boyfriend.
Ever since we started using drugs together, our relationship didn’t seem to be the same anymore. It feels as if though the drugs have come between us and is drifting us apart.
I really want to stop using drugs I just don’t know what to do.

My entire life took a turn for the worst because of drugs.

Kindest Regards
Shan
