by artc on March 11, 2009

Do you have a family member that needs to learn how to stop drinking alcohol? Having a family member that drinks to excess can put a strain on any relationship. Some things that happen include poor communication that lead to arguments.

If this occurs just call the law this may be just what is needed to jar them into getting help this may jar them to stop drinking and beat their alcohol addiction. You may feel responsible for them.

First of all we are only responsible for are own behavior. Don’t ever allow them to put the blame on you for their drinking or you put it there yourself.

Be clear to them that you are through enabling them. Do not loan them money. Recommend instead they attend an AA meeting. let them know you will not tolerate violence or verbal abuse.

Just remember we can not make anyone quit drinking but we can encourage them to do so. You could try talking with them about there drinking. It may not stop them but at least you have planted a seed that may indeed take root in the future. Maybe even mention Drug Addiction Therapy.

Don’t mix alcohol and xanax

Drinking and using xanax has killed many drug addicts. I used to drink and use xanax all the time and I frequently ended up in jail and most of the time I could not tell you what I did the night before.

Positive Changes are needed to Overcome Alcoholism

Making a positive change in one’s life often takes some time.  Persons struggling with additions, including drugs and alcohol will find that overcoming is a project that is ongoing.  The first step to overcome alcoholism or drug addiction is to admit there is a problem.  Unless the person with the addiction admits the problem they will have difficulty in overcoming.

Overcoming an addiction is a difficult process that cannot be accomplished alone.  In order for the person to overcome the addiction and stop drinking, he or she must have support.  The quality of one’s support will determine the effectiveness of overcoming the addiction.  Persons that offer personal, positive moral and good support are vital to beating the problem.  Some addicts or alcoholics find a support group is vital to facing the problem.

Overcoming the problem requires a willingness to learn.  It is important that the person learn to cope with alcohol or drugs in order to live a life that is free of either of the substances.  This may be compared to teaching a child to ride his or her bike.  Once again, it will be important to have the needed support during the process.  If there are slip ups or falls, there is no need for shame.  Just get up and start over one more time.  This is where support is needed.  Remember to avoid trying to make an excuse, but let the set backs you experience remind you there are areas in need of your attention.

Overcoming any addiction, including alcohol or drugs will require a change of environment.  That means to change one’s surroundings.  When attempting to overcome alcoholism or drug addiction, there will need to be changes in one’s personal and social lives.

You cannot succeed at trying new things in the same old setting.  To avoid the risk or retreat and temptation, the addict will need to lose some old friends.  We are told that old new wine will break old wine skins.  In the same manner it is impossible to put a new you into the old environment and succeed.  It is time to make better decisions, pace one’s self and make positive changes.
