If you have made the choice to stop drinking then congratulations, and of course now you need to learn how to stay sober. Recovering from being addicted to anything especially alcohol addiction. One needs to keep in mind that this is a long road that starts with a choice. There are going to be many bumps in the road and one of the best ways to help an alcoholic is to find some friends new friends and a support group to help you remain sober.
How to help an alcoholic
* How to recover from alcohol addiction without relapsing
* You will need to change your habits if you want to recover from drug or alcohol addiction
* The first step and is the best way how to help an alcoholic if you used to drink when you got off of work then you need to find something to fill that time.
It has been my experience that those who attend as many AA meetings as possible during this time tend not to relapse as often as those who half step it. Of course, no one really wants to be in AA or NA 7 days a week but that is exactly what you are going to have to do for a while because the AA basic text tells us that half measures avail us nothing.
So my question would be do you really want to stay clean and sober and learn how to stop drinking then suggestion would be for anyone to anyone who has the desire to overcome alcoholism is to attend 90 meetings in 90 days. This will give you a pretty solid recovery foundation.
When I stopped drinking and using drugs I did the 90 in 90 like my sponsor suggested. I also did another 90 when I completed the other 90 so I do not make it my practice to suggest to others things I have not done for my recovery myself.
You need to exercise. Getting in shape can be addictive as well. There is a big difference though; no one ever suffers from being in too good of shape. Go to your local YMCA or find a cheap gym and join. You will want a couple of friends to go with you. This way if any of you loses motivation the others can make sure you stick to it.
You also will need to establish a few shoulders to cry on this is where other recovering alcoholics come in that you have met in AA. Recovery can be hard.
One thing is sure which is you will inevitably think about some things that you did that may not make you feel so proud. Don’t worry we know it wasn’t you it was the booze. Hearing things like that can really help and of course just being able to vent always helps. With the right friends, program, and exercise you can stay clean.
Now there are those of you that have been drinking for many years and are defiantly going to need to go to alcohol addiction treatment for an alcohol detox. The reason for this is that a person who has drunk liquor for many years is going to experience alcohol withdrawal. Now keep in mind that withdrawing from alcohol can be fatal if not treated correctly that’s why you need to go to an alcoholism rehab so you can be medically detoxed from alcohol.
Good luck
