How to overcome drug addiction without relapsing can be taught to others through having a positive attitude towards changing habits. When I say taught to others I mean after you get clean. Those who have overcome addiction need to carry the message to let other struggling addicts know that they go can overcome their addiction and find a better way to live.

Bad habits continue because we allow it. By learning to tell ourselves no, we become able to make better choices. Addictions happen as a result of a need. Our pain causes us to reach for self-medication of any variety be it alcohol, marijuana, sugar or other substances. To overcome drug addiction a person has to see what triggers their addiction.

Drug and alcohol addictions have many possible triggers. Some substances make us feel good when we remember a safe point in our childhood. Other substances are simply used as a way of managing stress such as marijuana. Feeling a constant need to stay awake and get stuff done can lead to an addiction to coffee or worse, amphetamines.

People are afraid to slow down. Sometimes one addiction is substituted for another addiction. Addictions exist to fulfill unmet needs. The best way to overcome an addiction and stop drug abuse without relapsing is then to meet your unmet needs by recognizing what those needs are.

Everybody has needs. Somehow people cause themselves pain because they view needs as a negative behavior. The way a person suffering from addiction thinks has an impact on your well-being. Changing the way you think can change the way you use certain substances.

If a person suffering from addiction finds a substitute addiction, they need to make sure the addiction is a positive one such as reading, watching movies, blogging ect… There are many needs a person has to fill and just as many reasons to change when one is learning how to overcome addiction.

Removing triggers for the addiction are necessary. This will make a relapse less likely to occur. It is very important for you to become aware of these triggers causes an introspection that many are not willing to continue making. The work then becomes about realizing how a person suffering from addiction would like to stop suffering.

I know many people who have overcome addiction and in my opinion it is a substitute addiction but it is positive. The people I am speaking about are addicted to AA and NA meetings and functions. I think some go a little overboard but it is better than drinking or using drugs that’s for sure.

Being that we are addicts we have to learn how to have a balance and sometimes this is easier said than done. I know how much I like chocolates and I can go eat it until I have a belly ache if I am not aware of it.

Good luck
