HOW TO OVERCOME DILAUDID ADDICTION WITHOUT RELAPSING ON DRUGS OR ALCOHOL

by artc on November 19, 2010

A lot of people with a dilaudid addiction got hooked on dilaudid by going to their Dr. with pain issues and were prescribed this drug. Although there are others who chase dilaudid by going from Dr to Dr this is called doctor shopping.

I am going to share with you a little bit about  how those that were taking this drug legitimately became addicted to it. It more than likely started out rather innocently and then one day they began to start there normal routine at this time they noticed they were in a lot of pain. Then they took it upon themselves to take more than was prescribed to them without consulting their doctor. If this is done every day it will not be long and they will build a tolerance to this medicating which will cause them to take this drug more and more to achieve the desired effect. This does not just happen with this drug it can happen with all drugs even benzodiazipines and drugs similar to them.

For those who may not be a full blown addict yet I would urge you to do something about it real soon because you can bet your last dollar if you continue to use it will happen.

Dilaudid is the trade name and Hydromorphone the actual drug it was first manufactured in Germany in 1924 and was later introduced to the market by Knoll in 1926 under the trade name of Dilaudid, at this time it was said to be similar to morphine.

One reason that dilaudid was invented is because heroin was no longer marketed for sale. Dilaudid is also said to relive moderate to severe pain. It can be found in different strengths and is available in cough syrup too. It is said to help relieve painful bronchial coughing. I am will to bet that a lot of people back in the day started using them just like people today they ended up with an addiction to  dilaudid.

I know that it is prescribed for pain for cancer patients; in fact, that’s how I acquired my first  addiction. I used to know a guy who had cancer and I bought them from him every month. They were dirt cheap 30 years ago also. I am extremely grateful those days are over with and I stopped using dilaudid and I am staying sober today.

How to overcome dilaudid aka hydromorphone addiction

Now as far as to quit using dilaudid It took me a long time to get clean but I finally did after many relapses from coming off dilaudid if you could call them that. The way that I finally beat addiction was that I went to long term drug treatment.

This is where I started to change my life. I even went back to school and I am currently getting close to getting a degree in Social Work. This will allow me to help other addicts and get paid for it too. How awesome is that! If you are trying to stop using dilaudid I would suggest that you give long term rehab a try what do you have to lose? There you will learn to quit using dilaudid and learn a new way to live.

Good luck

I am so distraught. My 34-yr.-old son is now back in the ER with abdominal pain again. He requires up to 6 mg of Dilaudid to get relief. He has been in ER 5 times since Dec. 24th. Each time they load him up on Dilaudid and then admit him to hospital and give it to him every 4 hrs. IV for anywhere from 3 days to 9 days. When he is discharged from hospital he is sent home on Dilaudid pills and when he runs out in about 4 days he is back in hospital on Dilaudid again. He has a condition called gastroparesis which is delayed emptying of stomach and causes intense vomiting and pain. I am now thinking his body has become dependent on Dilaudid and when he is without it the pain and vomiting come back. It is so hard to tell if it is the condition or the Dilaudid. Can you please tell me if there is any kind of lab test to determine if he is addicted to Dilaudid or can you offer any advice. He was laid off his job in December and stress usually triggers the stomach condition, but I am afraid it is Dilaudid causing the ER visits and hospital admissions. He has a wife, new baby, large mortgage and 2 stepchildren. What do you advise?

My first question to you would be what were you doing during that year off of work to stay clean and sober? I would have to know more to actually try and help you other than to say do what ever you were doing to stay drug free then. If you tell me a little more about it I will try and help you the best that I can.

Good luck

Hi Shvonna
I am not sure whether you were being prescribed them by a doctor and ran out or are you intentionally just trying to quit taking dilaudid. More inf would be helpful like what are your plans…
