How to overcome and stop a percocet addiction using opiate addiction rehab or treatment

Percocet Addiction Is Both a Mental and Physical Health Issue

Percocet addiction usually occurs after the drug has been prescribed by a doctor for the management of pain.  Made with both oxycodone and acetaminaphine,

Percocet is a narcotic that is highly addictive

Studies have revealed that women are at twice the risk of forming a percocet addiction as their male counterparts, and those who live with the symptoms of chronic pain face the greatest risk of all for developing such an addiction.

Some people who abuse this medication will tell you that they do not have a problem; furthermore they will insist that their doctor prescribed it for them its not like they are doing illegal drugs or something. The only thing you can do at this point is wait of perhaps give their physician a call and let them know what you have seen.

Percocet abuse occurs when the user has taken the drug for a period of usually two weeks or more.  Most individuals naturally develop an immunity or it may be better known to you as a tolerance to the drug but some do so unknowingly because at some point they were hurting more than usual and decided to increase there dose. What happens the person will have to take more of the medication than was prescribed and when this happens the individual will have to take more and more to achieve the desired affect.

Percocet addiction aka oxycodone addiction

Using the drug in this manner the percocet abuser will sooner or later have to deal with physical and mental oxycodone addiction.  A rapid cessation or stopping the use after this time will result in Percocet withdrawal.

Getting though peroccet withdrawal

Now I would not recommend to stop using percocet cold turkey unless you have medication to ease you percocet withdrawal. I would however suggest that you look into going to a percocet addiction treatment or opiate rehab. If you choose this method you will be a lot better off because they will use medications to help your withdrawal pain.

If you do go to opiate rehab you will first be examined by the residing physician to make sure you are fit to go through and opiate detox. Once this is done you will meet the clinicians who will be looking after you during you stay in opiate addiction rehab. They will help to guide you through your opiate detox and provide you with prescription medications to help control the percocet withdrawal.

They will also be there to see to your personal needs and make sure you are as comfortable as possible plus they will monitor your withdrawal symptoms during detox. This process can take up to 5 days but you are not done yet because you will go directly to residential treatment following your detox.

What is residential treatment?

For those of you who have never been to rehab in residential treatment you will more than likely be sharing a room with other addicts just like yourself unless you are in a private rehab facility then you may have your own room. During residential treatment you will be required to attend group, 12 step meetings, lectures, and individual addiction therapy.

This type of drug addiction treatment is designed to help give you some addiction recovery tools to stay clean and sober after you leave substance abuse rehab.

Some individuals argue that after the physical addiction to Percocet and other narcotics have been treated, the need to worry has passed.  Unfortunately however, those who face chronic pain have a high likelihood of turning to substance abuse in order to alleviate their pain.

The individual is likely to believe that he or she is physically free of the addiction and thus, taking one pill will not be harmful.  The drug is then able to take control again.  From what I have seen and experienced, “one pill is always one too many and a thousand pills are never enough!”

Ways to Overcome Percocet Addiction

Addiction to a drug is both a mental and physical health issue and should be treated as such.  When the physical and psychological aspects of addiction are treated together the individual has a greater likelihood of finding alternative means for pain management.  Given the large increase in addiction rates for prescription painkillers, there is a major need for opiate addiction rehab facilities.

Good luck
