Heroin Detox help

by artc on April 7, 2010

This post will be about heroin addiction plus detoxing from heroin and what you can do to overcome it. The reason I like to write about this subject is that I am a recovering heroin addict myself. Heroin addiction is a growing problem all over the world. We should consider ourselves very fortunate because back in the day they did not have all the private drug rehabs and heron treatment centers that we have today. Chances are if you did not have a family to help you to detox then you were put in an asylum because they had no idea how to treat addiction or alcoholism for that matter.

A person who uses Heroin on a daily basis is going to need some   detox help sooner or later because it is an extremely addictive opiate. A person that is addicted to heroin is used to taking large amounts of the drug. Therefore, when an addict decides to stop heroin, the body will go through  a devastating withdrawal. Millions of people have to go through a heroin detox every year.

An opiate detox is one of the hardest detoxes that a drug addict can go through. Some of the withdrawal symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, exhaustion, anger, depression, suicidal thoughts, seizures, convulsions, tremors, and in some cases even death has occurred in people with poor health.

Heroin detox  help

If you happen to have a friend or someone that you love is addicted to heroin and wants to kick heroin, it is very important that you do not stop taking the heroin all at once. Stopping abruptly can not only make the withdrawal symptoms severe, but can actually kill you if you are in poor health. It is highly recommended that you only go through detox under the care of a physician.

The best way to get clean is in a heroin rehabilitation center or a hospital. There are several heroin addcition rehab centers out there that specialize in overcoming heroin addiction. There are also medications that the doctor can prescribe for you that will help with the side effects of detox.

These medications are highly addictive as well, and should only be taken in a controlled environment. They also should only be taken by the person they are prescribed for. I know in my case I was always looking for the eaiser softer way so I would self medicate with the drugs I thought would help. I was just basically switching drugs.

Heroin has one of the highest dropout rates, when it comes to rehabilitation. Nevertheless, with the right help and support, getting clean is definitely possible.

If you happen to have an addiction to heroin you may benefit from trying 12 step meetings like Narcotics Anonymous. People around the world are experiencing freedom from active addiction by attending these meetings and you can too. If you are just getting clean I would recommend that you attend meetings daily maybe even make a commitment to go to 90 meetings in 90 days. I know that I did it and it really help me get a grip on my heroin addiction. Do what ever you have to but stop using heroin now before its too late.

Good luck
