Free Rehab for Addiction and Recovery? Is there Such a Thing?

by artc on August 10, 2009

Many people want to know if they qualify for going to drug rehab because it is generally pretty expensive to get treatment services and help for overcoming addiction.

In most cases you will either need to have insurance, lots of cash, or medicaid in order to get into a place.  Even then you will not necessarily have your choice of treatment centers and might have to go to one that accepts your funding source.

But let’s say you have no money at all and no insurance.  What then?  Is there such as thing as free rehabs out there?  Well yes there are but you have to be persistent in finding them and in applying for them if you are going to get into them.

How to overcome drug addiction in free drug rehab

Stop Sweating the small stuff and make sure that you follow through with any applications to free drug rehab  Call around to local treatment centers and find out which ones you might qualify for.  In many cases, long term treatment centers that are set up for homeless people are actually free.

They might just take a percentage of any money that is made from the residents while they are employed while living there.  Such places do exist and operate that way under that sort of funding and in many cases they do not even force you to take a job necessarily.  However, if you do find employment then you might pay about one third of your earnings into the treatment center to help fund it.  This really is a nice setup for people in early recovery to help them get back on their feet.

What good is a treatment center if it costs thousands of dollars?  Most addicts and alcoholics are a bit low on cash when they have finally hit rock bottom and are ready to do something about their problem.  That is why it is so great to be able to find drug rehab centers or ways to attend treatment for free.

Government and State funded drug rehab

There are also government and state funded drug rehabs but you will have to put in the time and effort to find them because they do not advertise.

I can tell you for sure that they do exist because I got into a long term drug rehab and it does not cost a thin dime until we went to work and then we were required to pay a small amount for rent and there was still enough left to save for an apartment when you left long term treatment.

I stayed the full two years and went back to school it get my bachelors degree and mind you I am a person who never graduated High School but I was getting 4.0 in college. This just lets me know that anyone with a few brain cells left can go back to school and get a degree to better there life. I am currently getting very close to getting my bachelors in Social Work. It is not real easy but if you study and put in the work you will do fine and more than likely get good grades like I did but the catch is for this to happen you have to stay clean and sober.

Good luck

I am looking for a FREE rehab for
my son 26
He has been in 8 rehabs and injecting H for 10 years.
He is really desperate to quit, but I have absolutely no more money.
I am thinking of locking him up in a room and chaining him with handcuffs to a steel bar for 6 weeks! I am desperate! I am expecting a phone call 24 hours a day to go to the morgue to identify him! Please help if their is any other way??If he could stay on a farm and ddo somr physical work after the detox I think it might also help, please, anybody?

Hi Regina

Nothing is free, someone always pays for it be that the Government or the State.

The best thing I can tell you is to call up local rehabs, ask them for guidance on funding.

Good luck

Thank you for your drug addiction stories. Hearing what addicts go through makes the disease all the more understandable.

Hi Norma thanks for asking the best I can tell you is to try reading this post it has some phone numbers other than that you are going to have to do the research yourself. It may not be easy but if you put in the time they are out there. If he has medicaid he should not need a government funded rehab they will pay for it.
