Beat heroin addiction face your fears

by artc on October 24, 2009

I remember a couple years ago I did not even want to tell anyone that I turned 50 years old. I was so ashamed or embarrassed about it. The reason was I was embarrassed to say it was that I felt like I had accomplished absolutely nothing in all those years and I was about as worthless as they come. This was my diseased thinking at work because it is not true.

If you are anything like me an addict, it would be wise to get use to the disease of addiction telling you lies about yourself; for instance, that you are worthless, stupid, and not good enough ect. Don’t believe it go to a meeting and share about it others need to here this also. We are all good people at heart.

I used to try and justify the most outrageous sort of nonsense that would allow me to continue to use and feel good about it. I would say things like look at Mick Jagger and the stones they hooked on heroin.

How to overcome an addiction to heroin

One time I remember saying to my aunt well did you know Theodore Roosevelt used morphine. Never mind that he had a dam good reason for it excruciating pain. This was my way of being able to lift my self up a notch by associating myself with someone famous plus them using some type of drug did not hurt matters either.

I always wanted to be something other than whom or what I really was. I would do whatever it took to avoid responsibility. I also did not want to feel anything that was emotionally painful. That avoidance kept me using for more than 30 years.

Beat heroin face your fears

I believe that an addict is a person surrounded by self centered fear. That was the case for me and many of the people I know. I have found it necessary to face those fears as they arise. Believe it or not I used to have a fear of sharing at meetings or speaking to a group of people. That was just one example of one of the many fears I have faced. That is not to say that they don’t return and if they do they no longer have the power to paralyze me. I really love this saying from the N A step working guide and wanted to share it.

“If we could look at the disease of addiction stripped of its primary symptoms- that is, apart from drug use or other compulsive behavior- and without its most obvious characteristics, we would find a swamp of self – centered fear.” Basically we are afraid of anything that might make us feel. But we can beat heroin addiction if we face are fears.

I have done it and I know many others who have do so also and you can too if you take the necessary action to do so.

I got clean and sober in long term drug rehab if you have been to conventional drug rehab and residential treatment and it did not work for you for one reason or another you may want to consider going to long term rehab it could actually work for you and save your life like it did mine.

Good luck

My bf of 8 mo relasped in Feb after being clean for 8mo on the outside and the other 14 mo he was locked up..so 21mo total.. he used heroine for bout 10 years. Was in a really dysfunctional marriage, there was love but not the true love of a wife…not support or help..I’m willing to be there 100% to help him change my ways….we were bf and gf at 12 years old and brought back into eachothers lives after the death of his wife and after my heart wrenching divorce, we both we are ment to be. We have 5 children between us..he is locked up now again after he relasped for 3 weeks. I believe he wants to really beat his heroine addition and start a life of pure happiness. What are the chances of me being able to help my bf and my best friend beat this demon of addition?????

Hi Karen thanks for your comment

Actually the only way you can really help him is to support him if he chooses to stay clean otherwise you will have to make some new decisions.

One thing you may try is get a list of all the NA meetings in your area find out what time and where they meet have them for him when he gets out. If he starts going to them he has a chance otherwise he is hit and will more than likely use again addicts can not stay clean alone.

Good luck
