
Stay involved in your support group.
1.Your chances of staying clean improve immensely if you are actively involved in a support group either NA or AA will work. I would also recomend a sponsor and Outpatient Therapy or individual therapy.
2. Continue to work on coping skills.
I can tell you that life is just going to show up from time to time and slap you in the noggin be prepared. When this occurs having healthy coping skills will help prevent a relapse. I would recommend a healthy diet plenty of exercise and a good nights sleep. Try going for a walk a couple times a week or better yet every day and try reading before going to bed before be it tends to help me fall asleep faster.
Continue to work on your coping skills.
3. If you have to go to a Dr. or hospital be upfront with them and tell them about your addiction. There is no need to feel ashamed you are trying to save your life. Find a Dr. that will work with you in finding alternative meds or the absolute minimum of medication needed to help alienate your pain. If your Dr. is unable or unwilling to do this find another Dr. who will.
4. This is a big one Feelings.
Feelings that have been buried or masked by continued drug use are going to resurface from time to time. What are ya gonna do when they come for you because you are not going to have drugs to fall back on. You will have to build skills in dealing with your feelings. Maybe you could share with your sponsor or pray.
5.Plan for the future but live for today.
I would have to say great or go back to school or do some volenteer work. Helping others always seems to get us out of ourselves. Maybe even reading recovery litrature from time to time. Stay involved with other recovering addicts or alcoholics.
