Classic cases of denial

The famous it will never happen again.

How many time have we said this after screwing up the night before.

I’ll do what I want whenever I want.

This is their way of saying they are in charge.

I don’t have a problem.

This is a classic example of denial.

I am really not that bad.

Minimizing their using is another symptom of the addicts denial. They are just trying to make me look bad.

I just want some relief.

When I am stressed I just want a little relief whats wrong with taking a little drink or drug.

The only one I am hurting is me.

This is another common excuse but in truth they are hurting everyone around them.

If you had been what I have been through you would use too.

This is the classic wanting someone to feel sorry for them.

I know what I am doing.

This is a lie to themselves and big time denial.

I can quit doing drugs when ever I feel like it.

This is to let you know they are in control.

I am not as bad as so and so.

This is a way of taking the focus off of themselves. I had a heroin addiction and I made so many excuses and blamed others so I could continue using. We have quit lying to ourselves as well as our friends and family. Once we do this we have a chance to start our lives over again.

We can start by quit making excuses and do something about our problem by going to drug addiction treatment and NA meetings.

I suggest that you make a commitment to attend a meeting daily for at least the first 90 days. While attending these meetings we need to look for a sponsor. This may be the person who shared a message that you could relate to or felt something you had in common with. It is also a good idea to get some phone numbers while there and go to social functions like getting coffee movies ect….

This is a start making amends to the people we love and have harmed will come in due time. With this being said why not get the help  you need to stop using drugs today. If this is not your first attempt at getting clean do let that keep you from trying again it takes many of us several attempts to finally get it right. I know it to me a whole lot of beat downs and many many attempts.

If you are an addict or know an addict that are using some of these excuses then its time for you to do something about it. Maybe you can not seem to get through to a loved one that they are destroying there lives. They make excuses on a regular basis and they are running you ragged. Well it may be time to distance yourself from them.

If they live with you then you can tell them to either shape up or ship out but if they do not and they are always calling you after they have been using then quit taking their calls problem solved. Maybe they will come to the conclusion that they need help or something major will happen in their life to jar them into seeking help.

Good luck
